Common Access Card (CAC)/Personal Identity Verification (PIV) (LANIER)

Product Overview

The Common Access Card (CAC)/Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Authentication Solution provides a vital layer of security to effectively thwart illicit access, retrieval, capture or copying of sensitive documents and data using digital Multifunction Products (MFPs).

ABOUT THE CAC/PIV AUTHENTICATION SOLUTION
  • Equips MFPs with Common Access Card (CAC)/Personal Identity Verification (PIV) authentication capabilities and prevents unauthorized access to these digital imaging devices utilizing the US Department of Defense CAC smart cards
MAJOR APPLICATIONS
  • Meet requirements of the Homeland Security Presidential Directive - 12 (HSPD-12)
  • Address mandates to standardize on a secure, reliable form of identification
BENEFITS
  • Provides strong user authentication for securing information assets
  • Guards against security breaches without disrupting normal authorized document workflows
  • Personnel can use the same CAC/PIV, used to access physical buildings, rooms and computer resources, to access network Multifunction Products (MFPs)
  • Establishes MFP security and accountability practices tied to the identity of individual users
  • Provides FIPS 140-2 certified scan to Email.
USING THE COMMON ACCESS CARD AUTHENTICATION SOLUTION
  • Easy to use turn-key solution
  • Holders of a valid CAC/PIV can perform copy, scan, fax, and/or document server functions
  • Card is inserted into reader connected to MFP and pin is entered
  • Upon successful authentication the device is unlocked for use
  • Scanning is restricted only to address book users and embedded destinations to prevent anonymous scan-to functions
  • After authentication user is automatically registered in MFP's address book
IMPLEMENTING THIS SOLUTION
  • Utilizes a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) Security Certificate to verify cardholder's identity
  • Access to a device's functions can be controlled under CAC/PIV authentication, for example to the scan-to-email function can be limited only to certain areas
  • Solution requires CAC/PIV compatible MFP(s) with print/scan kit, USB host interface and Java VM card options
  • Customer-supplied items include: DoD security certificates, Common Access Card, Common Access Card Server and Common Access Card Reader (tested Smart Card readers include: SCM Microsystems: SCR331, CSR3310; OMNIKEY: CardMan 3121)
